| 'Red Arrows' goes much further than a traditional aviation book. Ironically, I am not a plane-spotting photographer but I do have a passion for the beauty of flying machines, the aesthetics of flight and its ordinary presence in our everyday lives. This project, about one of our nation's favourite icons, took almost two years to complete and was a natural successor to previous self-initiated work on a continuing aerospace theme.'
In the belief that I would not simply repeat the formula of previous Reds' books, the Royal Air Force granted me permission to document their esteemed aerobatic squadron, affording me unprecedented editorial and creative freedom. What follows are previews of artwork and page layouts by book designer supremo Stuart Smith. |
